You won’t hear Xfinity Comcast admitting that though.  But can you blame them?  To admit that would be suicide, especially if they don’t innovate and “ride the trending” waves.

With more people watching movies and shows on their computers, tablets, Xboxes and even smartphones, you may think that the television was going the way of the dinosaurs.  But according to Xfinity Comcast and Samsung you would be incorrect ….
The cable companies may be visiting the dinosaurs sooner than the TV manufacturers, because we soon won’t need a cable box as we enter the world of internet-connected smart TVs.  Really powerful apps are coming to our televisions.  In what is considered a milestone for Smart TVs, Samsung announced recently that they have partnered with the Xfinity Comcast service to provide their service on the Samsung Smart TVs.  This will provide even more entertainment options for TV viewers.  Streaming content is also available on the Samsung Galaxy tablet PCs.
There are more than 1400 apps now available for Samsung Smart TVs and there are an average of 50,000 downloads daily as viewers use their TVs for streaming video for totals in the tens of millions. The popularity of apps is around the fact that they offer both customized and interactive content devoted to specialties, hobbies and viewers’ passions such as social networking, music, news or hobbies.  Examples are Angry Birds, Bravo, ESPN Score Center, MTV Music Meter, NBA Game Time, The Broadway Channel, Verizon Flex View and Wall Street Journal Live.  Xfinity Comcast also has an app that can turn your smartphone into a remote control from your TV.

You will be able to search shows and set recordings with an interface on the TV without going to the cable box menu.  But Xfinity Comcast is not the only Samsung smart TV partner.

Time Warner announced that their customers will soon be able to get their content on their Samsung app and they already have an agreement with Sony Smart TVs.  One of the interesting features of the Time Warner app is that viewers can get their DVR content without the requirement of a TV top cable box from any smart TV in their house.  This is an obvious saving for a household, as there will be no need to rent additional cable boxes.
Here is a 60 second YouTube ad for Xfinity from February 2010 by ComcastVoices:
Eric Anderson, VP at Samsung America, was quoted last year as saying that as apps begin to take advantage of every screen in the house, even smart appliances will be able to deliver content.  Maybe you will be able to watch the morning news on the coffee maker as you make your coffee!
God bless you!
