As with any Rose Bowl, Rose Bowl 2013 was an exciting spectacle.

The Stanford Cardinals defeated the Wisconsin Badgers 20-14 in theRose Bowl 2013. This was Stanford’s first Rose Bowl victory in 41 years.
But for Wisconsin who has lost three straight Rose Bowls, even having for coach Barry Alvarez on the sideline couldn’t get them a win in Pasadena. Wisconsin has now lost three straight Rose Bowls.
Stanford won 12 games, and beat USC and Oregon before winning the Rose Bowl 2013 and will likely finish the season ranked in the Top Five.
For Wisconsin, this is the end of the season for them at 8-6.  It is not bad, but not good either, since they were the Big Ten champions this season.

And that is where some controversy has started.  Many are saying it was a shame that the best team in the Big Ten wasn’t the team representing the conference in the Rose Bowl 2013.

The NCAA slapped Ohio State with a one-year bowl ban and additional penalties for violations that had eight players taking a total of $14,000 in cash and tattoos in exchange for jerseys, rings and other Buckeyes’ memorabilia.
If not for the ban, Ohio State would have played in the Rose Bowl 2013 and fans everywhere are asking “Would Ohio State have beaten Stanford”?   Many are saying that if Wisconsin can keep to within six points of Stanford, it is very reasonable to think that Ohio State would have been able to do at least that.

Fans certainly feel that the Buckeyes could have run more than two plays in Stanford’s end in the second half, which is what Wisconsin did, even though they were scoreless in the second half. The Badgers had an opportunity to go for a game-winning touchdown, but an intercepted pass spoiled that chance.
Well, it won’t be a problem next season, because Ohio State’s bowl ban expires this year.  Though their fans will argue, it is not a given than Ohio State will be the 2013 Big Ten’s top team either.  They do have a lot of talent, so the Buckeyes are expected to be high up the list and hope to represent their conference at the next Rose Bowl.  So, the Buckeyes aren’t worried about having missed out on Rose Bowl 2013.

At the end of the day, Wisconsin Badgers should be given credit.  They gave Stanford a run for their money, but just couldn’t get the job done.  Wisconsin is a good team, just not great.

God bless you!
