How many New Years resolutions will you achieve this year?

Here we are at the start of another year …. a traditional time for making New Year’s resolutions in the hope that we will be better this year than we were last year.
Some people will want to give up a bad habit – drinking, smoking, junk food, etc.
Others will want to change their physical appearance – lose weight, get fit, makeover, etc.

These are all good New Year’s resolutions, but the statistics show that we either don’t make them and/or aren’t very successful:

Percent of people who usually make New Years Resolutions45%
Percent of people who infrequently make New Years Resolutions17%
Percent of people who never will make New Years Resolutions38%
Percent of people who succeed in achieve their New Years Resolutions8%
Percent of people who have infrequent success49%
Percent of people who, each year, end up abandoning their resolutions24%
Don’t be too discouraged by these statistics, because it gets worse.  Apparently the older we get, the les success we have at achieving them:
Percent of people in their 20s who achieve their resolution39%
Percent  of people achieve their resolution over 50 years of age14%
This year, why not try some New Years resolutions that improve your relationships both with yourself and others.  You will still get the benefits if you achieve them, even if only halfway:
  • Order brings peace of mind, so be organized.  Start with something easy, like making your bed every day for a month and see how good it feels to have at least one place in your life that is tidy.
  • Take time out and spend it with the people that you like.  Continue doing this through the year.  This will bring you joy.
  • Try to make the life easier for others and solve their problems.  This is the fastest way to solve your own problems because many times they will then help you with your problems.

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
