Car2Go Offers the Car Rental Industry Some Unique Possibilities
The car rental industry just got a bit of a face lift thanks to the innovative and unique invention of the Car2Go concept.
What is Car2Go?
It is a network of cars that are available for sharing 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The cars are available at Car2Go parking spaces across 17 major cities from Austin Texas, to Toronto, Canada.
Car2Go continues to grow across North America as it starts operations in Seattle on Dec. 19.
These are the most tech savvy cars around and there is even a smartphone app to help you find the nearest Car2Go location. Users sign up for a membership and get a swipe card. (They are offering free membership for a limited time). To use the service, you go to the closest car2go parking location and choose any car that is available. You just swipe your membership card to gain access to the car, start it and drive the car for as long as you want. The rental can end at any parking location within the Home Area and the car is available for the next person to use.
There is no reservation required and you can keep the car for as long as you would like. They have easy to understand rates – you simply pay for the time you use the car whether it is by the minute, the hour, the day or by mileage. There are no monthly fees or rental subscription packages and the one-way model means there is no need to waste your time and money by returning the car to the same location that you began your trip. Of course, you can return to the same location if that is what you wish.
When the member is finished using the vehicle, he or she can park at any city non-restricted metered or un-metered spaces with time limits of two hours or greater, or on-street in any residential neighborhood within the Car2Go Home Area. Parking, fuel, insurance and maintenance are included at no additional cost.
Car2go complements existing public transportation nicely and provides flexibility and cost savings to those who may not need a car on a full-time basis, but have a need for occasional use and don’t want all the expenses associated with car ownership.
It also gives everyone more transportation choices that make it easier and cheaper to get around the city as sometimes public transportation is not available at all hours on all days.
To locate a car, members can use the smartphone app; visit the Car2Go vehicle finder on the Car2Go website, call the customer call center, or simply find an available car on the street!
